Update 5/21/12

We are in the last stretch of our year.  I can't believe how fast it has gone.  I have loved watching each of these children grow academically as well as socially this year.  This is such a sweet class, and I am going to miss each of them dearly next year.

Summer Work
Last week your child brought home a summer packet. I encourage the children to work on some academics all summer long.  I shared with the class that anyone who completes the packet can return it to me in August for a special prize.
In addition to working on the summer packet, I cannot express enough how important it is for the children to read all summer long.  The public libraries have fun incentive programs for the children to encourage them to read. Encouraging your child to read every day is greatly beneficial to them to continue to grow as a reader.
Lastly, buying your child a special journal or diary for them to write in over the summer will help them continue to practice their writing craft and mechanics.

Science
Last Thursday your child brought home their science study guide for the last science test of the year.  The students will test over heat and light on Tuesday, May 22nd.

This week's events:
Monday: We will spend a short time in the afternoon in a school wide event celebrating how hard each of the students worked on the MAP test and their great attendance.  They will enjoy some nachos and an extra recess.

Tuesday: Our class will celebrate our last classroom reward party with a pizza party.  Your child does not need to bring in a lunch on Tuesday.  However, please send a drink with your child.  If you have not done so, yet, please send in $2 to help cover the cost of the pizza.  Thank you to all who donated our extra items to have with lunch.

Wednesday: It is our buddy lunch day.  Your child ordered their lunch on this day a few weeks ago stating whether they were a bringer, buy a hot dog sack, or purchase a hamburger sack.  Our buddy class is the PM kindergartners.  Since they do not eat lunch at school, we will enjoy some popsicles with our buddies on this day.  We will eat lunch with another third grade class who has AM kindergarten buddies.

Thursday: This is our last day of school. It is a half day of school. Dismissal time is 11:45.

Thank you again for working together to help your child have a very successful year.  Have a wonderful summer!

Week of May 7th Update

BUDDY LUNCH
We will enjoy lunch with our buddy class on Wednesday, May 23rd.  However, we need each child to order their lunch ahead of time.  If you have not already done so, please return the "Buddy Lunch Form" on Monday that states what your child will have for lunch on the 23rd.

BASEBALL CAPS
During our library lessons these last few weeks, Mrs. Graef has been working with the students on a Reader's Theater with the story Mudball.  The students are performing their Reader's Theater on Monday to a second grade class.  If your child has one, please send in a baseball cap on Monday for the Reader's Theater.

MATH
Students will have their fraction test over chapter 25 on Tuesday.

SCIENCE
Their science test over matter (chapter 11) will be on Thursday, May 10th.  They will bring home their study guide on Monday.

Friday, May 11th, is our Concord Fun Day. Third grade will participate in the morning. Please have your child wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes that day.  You may want to also put some sunscreen on your child before coming to school that day because we will be outside all morning.  For those of you new to Concord, the students participate in various games and activities for fun.  It is a great time!
